KRIS ASHTON
In February of 2006 (late summer in Australia) I was watching TV before turning in for the night when a community service ad came on. The ad propounded the dangers of toddlers around swimming pools – including the yearly drowning statistics. I meditated on this for a minute and it creeped me out so much that my back and arms tightened with gooseflesh. Ghosts are typically born of a bad death – and what death is worse than an innocent child’s? The idea seemed incredibly potent and I couldn’t wait to get started on the story, which at its core is really just a new riff on the haunted house archetype.
